vEAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer will not play against the New York Giants on Sunday because of a shoulder injury. Palmer, who was limited at practice all week, will be replaced by Drew Stanton, an eight-year veteran who has four career starts. Palmer threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns in the season opener Monday night to rally the Cardinals over San Diego. He was 24 of 37 for 304 yards with a 108.4 quarterback rating. The 34-year-old started all 16 games for Arizona last season. Palmer threw for a career-high 4,274 yards with 24 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. Stanton has not appeared in an NFL game since 2010 with the Lions. The former Michigan State product was 69 of 119 for 780 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. The 30-year-old ran for 113 and another score. Rookie Logan Thomas, a fourth-draft draft pick out of Virginia Tech, will back up Stanton. Arizona starting defensive tackle Frostee Rucker also is out for the game. Tommy Kelly will start for him. The Giants only notable inactive is rookie linebacker Devon Kennard, who pulled a hamstring against Detroit on Monday. First-round draft pick Odell Beckham Jr. also remains sidelined with a hamstring injury. For a while, he didnt know whether he would return at all. Woods said Monday his back injury became so debilitating this year it caused him to doubt his ability to play golf again. "Forget about playing golf at the highest level. I couldnt get out of bed," Woods said. "I was certainly doubtful at that point. Whats it going to feel like? Am I going to be pain free? Am I going to be able to actually do this again, where I can to get out of bed, and go out there and play with my kids and play golf? All those things were up in the air."
