CHICAGO - Joe Maddons longtime bench coach is coming with him to Chicago.The Cubs announced Thursday that they hired Dave Martinez for Maddons staff and moved Brandon Hyde from bench coach to first base coach. Doug Dascenzo, who was hired as first base coach in October, is switching to outfield and baserunning co-ordinator with responsibilities in the majors and minors.The 50-year-old Martinez was Maddons bench coach in Tampa Bay for the past seven seasons. Martinez was a candidate to succeed Maddon with the Rays, but did not make the cut when the organization selected three finalists last month.Martinez was selected by Chicago in the third round of the 1983 draft. He made his major league debut with the Cubs in 1986 and played for the franchise for parts of four seasons.Former major league catcher Henry Blanco also is returning to Chicago to serve as the clubs major league quality assurance coach. Definitely being better with two outs because thats when you want to get back in the dugout." Stroman entered the game in the fourth, with the Jays down 1-0, pitching in relief of Mark Buehrle. Two quick outs later, he battled former Jay Jayson Nix to a full count and lost him on a slider. Catcher Dioner Navarro called for a fastball, but the brash, confident youngster shook off his veteran battery mate. "Which Im perfectly fine with," said Navarro. "We aint kids, man. "A couple of things I did, stretching out my back, whatever, and the way I slept that night kind of got my neck going and the treatment, it didnt react well to it and the neck just stayed spasmed up, so I got the shot and the dose pack and it seems to be helping." Rasmus missed time during the first half of spring training last year with a sore muscle in his shoulder. He has experience heading into the regular season with fewer at-bats than first anticipated.
