DULUTH, Ga. -- Miguel Angel Jimenez quickly shifted his focus back to the Ryder Cup after winning his first Champions Tour event. Jimenez held off Bernhard Langer to win the Greater Gwinnett Championship on Sunday, becoming only the third player to lead from start to finish in his debut on the 50-and-over tour. Jimenez, coming off a fourth-place finish in the Masters, closed with a 67 to finish two strokes ahead of Langer. Jimenez finished the tournament with 32 consecutive holes without a bogey at TPC Sugarloaf. The Spaniard said he cant make a commitment to the Champions Tour this year because his goal is making the European Ryder Cup team. "To me its not about money," Jimenez said. "Its about some different goals to make me feel proud of myself. To me I would feel nice to play on the Ryder Cup once more." Langer, the defending champion, shot his third-straight 68. Jimenez and Langer were tied at 10 under before a two-shot swing on No. 8. Jimenez needed only a short putt for a birdie, and Langer fell two strokes behind with his bogey. After that, Jimenez avoided mistakes down the stretch, leaving no opening for Langer or Jay Haas, who shot 67 and was third, four shots off the lead. Jimenez insisted the win wasnt easy. "When you hit the ball straight and you put the ball close to the hole it looks easy, but nothing is easy," he said. "You need to keep calm yourself. ... I like to feel the pressure and ... the people that are coming behind bite me." Langer said his inability to make birdie putts kept him from putting pressure on Jimenez. "I had a number of opportunities, just couldnt make any putts today," Langer said. "And he played very, very solid all day." Jimenez stretched his lead to three strokes before he showed that on this day even his mistakes brought no harm. He hit his tee shot on No. 15 into a tree -- but it bounced back into the fairway. From there, he hit his next shot into a bunker but still salvaged par. The win assured, Jimenez tipped his visor to the fans as he walked up the 18th fairway. He then winked and blew a kiss to a TV camera. He brought his victory cigar to his postgame press conference. "I showed my game is in very good shape now," said Jimenez, who added he isnt complaining about life at 50. "Im very happy with my age and the way Im doing," he said. "The last 15 years is when my best golf is coming. Its nice. No complaint with 50." Langer said he doesnt expect to see Jimenez on the Champions Tour again this year. "He said he wasnt going to play anymore this year because he wants ... to be the oldest European player to ever play on the Ryder Cup," Langer said. "Thats his goal. But, you know, goals can sometimes change. Who knows, maybe he makes the Ryder Cup team by July and hell decide to come out for a couple of weeks." Fred Couples, in the final group with Jimenez and Langer, shot 70 and was fourth. Langer tied for eighth and Couples tied for 20th in the Masters. Jimenez said coming out on top of the high-profile group made the win even nicer. "Of course its satisfaction," Jimenez said. "The better quality the field, the more satisfied you are with the victory. All three were playing very well in the Masters. We all were in contention. Thats nice." Steve Pate, Duffy Waldorf and David Frost tied for fifth. Willie Wood shot 66 and was in a group tied for eighth. Jimenez became the second straight player to win in his debut on the Champions Tour, following Jeff Maggert in last months Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. Rod Funseth (1983 Hall of Fame Tournament) and Bruce Fleisher (1999 Royal Caribbean Classic) are the only other players to lead from start to finish in their first Champions Tour events. WINNIPEG -- Weston Dressler was feeling pretty pumped after scoring a 75-yard touchdown on a second-quarter punt return in the Saskatchewan Roughriders 30-24 win over the Blue Bombers on Sunday. It didnt last long. The veteran receiver, who just re-signed with the club last month and was playing his second game, held his breath when he saw quarterback Darian Durant writhing in pain after taking a hit 5:38 in the third quarter. "Your heart just sinks," said Dressler, who re-signed after being cut by the NFL Kansas City Chiefs. "You never want to see a guy go down on the field, especially a guy like him. Hes our leader. Hes our guy. Hes our man that we follow. "Hes the guy that I followed for the last six years so its tough to see, but you know what type of guy he is, what type of fighter he is and hell get back on the field." Durant left the game holding his right throwing arm after being knocked to the turf by Bombers defensive end Bryant Turner on a play that had been whistled down in front of a sold-out crowd of 33,234 fans at Investors Group Field. Early reports said its an elbow injury, which isnt good news for the defending Grey Cup champions, who moved into second place in the CFL West Division with their seventh straight victory and 8-2 record. Saskatchewan head coach Corey Chamblin said he heard the officials whistle, but it was part of the positive and negatives that happen in a game. He didnt know the extent of Durants injury, but said it motivated the players to hang on to the lead with backup Tino Sunseri at the helm. "The guys knew that our leader was down and we have faith in Tino. Weve seen him before, but guys took it as a slight, they got a little pissed, but we finished the game," Chamblin said. Winnipeg (6-5), which has lost four of its last five games, had led 7-1 after the first quarter before the Riders exploded, outscoring the Bombers 26-1 in the second, including 17 points in a four-minute span. Defensive back Rod Williams started the second quarter with a 60-yard fumble return for a TD 15 seconds in after Bomber Lirim Hajrullahus 41-yard field-goal attempt was blocked by Weldon Brown. Running back Anthony Allen scored on a 13-yard run at 13:27 and Dressler missed some tackles and ran down the sidelines for his TD with 38 seconds left in the second quarter. Sunseri went in for Durant and led the Riders on a drive that ended with Chris Milos 35-yard field goal to make it 30-15.dddddddddddd Sunseri said a quick prayer Durant would be all right and then started warming up. "Whenever youre up by that many points, you want to establish the line of scrimmage, you want to run the football, understand the clocks in your favour and you dont want to turn the ball over," Sunseri said. "I felt like our offensive line and running backs did a great job of getting on their man and making sure they were opening holes, able to get first downs and making sure that we were able to put enough points on the board to win the game at the end." Sunseri completed two of five pass attempts for 30 yards. Durant was 8-of-9 for 77 yards before his injury. Winnipeg quarterback Drew Willy attempted his fifth late-game comeback of the season, hitting Aaron Kelly with a 29-yard TD pass with 2:27 left in the game to make it 30-24. Riders fullback Jerome Messam then carried the ball and fumbled, with Bombers defensive back Maurice Leggett picking it up and breathing new life into the Bombers at Saskatchewans 45-yard line with 1:36 left. The joy was brief as Willys next throw was intercepted by Williams with 1:26 remaining. Willy said he wished he had that throw back, but there was some positive in the team battling to the whistle. "The low obviously is the loss. Any time you lose a game, it stings, but we just need to look at the corrections, get better," Willy said. "We have a big game this week against B.C. (6-4)." Willy completed 26 of 38 pass attempts for 360 yards with two interceptions and two TDs. The victory gave the Riders a three-game sweep of the Bombers this season, following a 23-17 win in Winnipeg on Aug. 7 and a 35-30 victory last weekend in the Labour Day Classic game. Saskatchewan also came away from the 11th annual Banjo Bowl with its sixth victory in the tilt. One again, the Riders running game shone, chalking up a total of 196 yards compared to Winnipegs 94. "They scored one touchdown against our defence. They scored 16 (points) on our special teams," Bomber head coach Mike OShea said when asked about the rushing numbers. "We took too many penalties, gave up too many points on special teams Winnipeg had 13 penalties for 158 yards, compared to Saskatchewans six flags for 70 yards. One players from each team was ejected. à thats what Im concerned about."
